How to use the Concrete Cost Calculator

  3. Add delivery and short-load fees — ask your supplier; "short load" fees apply under ~3–5 yd³.

Formula & methodology

Cost = Volume with waste × price per cu yd + delivery fee. Volume = length × width × thickness ÷ 27 (ft³ → yd³).

Example

A 20 ft × 20 ft slab at 4 in: 4.94 yd³, plus 10% waste = 5.44 yd³. At $160/yd³ plus $90 delivery: about $960.

What does ready-mix concrete cost per yard?

Typically $130–$180 per cubic yard in the US for plain mix; add fees for delivery, short loads (under ~3 yd), Saturday pours, and fiber or accelerator additives.

What is a short-load fee?

Most plants mix 3–10 yd³ per truck efficiently; smaller loads carry a surcharge (often $50–$150). For 1 yd pours, bag mix or a trailer-mounted mixer can beat ready-mix pricing.

Is bag mix ever cheaper than ready-mix?

For small pours under ~0.5–1 yd³ (a few tubes or a small pad), bag mix is usually cheaper once fees are counted. Above that, ready-mix wins on cost and your back.

How much concrete can a truck actually bring?

Full trucks carry 9–11 yd³. Multiple small orders from different suppliers pay multiple delivery fees — consolidate pours when you can.
